Give a bit of background on what you’re working on and how you got involved in the Hyperledger community.
Back in 2018, Accenture decided to create a blockchain team based in Madrid. At that time, we were a team of four working on POCs to basically show visitors what blockchain was about. We used Hyperledger Composer to deploy a very basic blockchain network, which, in my opinion, was a great way to get introduced to the technology. Composer had a UI in which it was really easy to visualize how transactions were submitted and the information registered.
After that, I got involved in a supply chain project in which Hyperledger Fabric was used to deploy a blockchain network that was capable of tracking routers, mobiles and other equipment across an entire country. Blockchain made the supply chain more robust and efficient and, thanks to the characteristics of this technology, it was easier to track the data in the business, increasing the visibility of the assets.
In 2021, I was willing to work in a more international environment so Accenture gave me the opportunity to work on Hyperledger Bevel (at that time blockchain-automation-framework) and become a contributor. Currently, I am back working on Bevel, helping the team achieve our goals and improve the framework.
Danos algo de detalle sobre en lo que estás trabajando y cómo te introdujiste a la comunidad de Hyperledger.
En 2018, Accenture decidió fundar un equipo de blockchain en Madrid. Por aquel entonces, éramos un equipo de 4 personas trabajando en POCs para enseñar qué era blockchain a las visitas que recibía el equipo. Usábamos Hyperledger Composer para desplegar una red de Blockchain muy básica, herramienta con la cuál es fácil introducirse a la tecnología, en mi opinión. Composer tiene una UI para visualizar cómo las transacciones son registradas e información sobre las mismas.
Después de esto, trabajé en un proyecto relacionado con una cadena de suministro en el que utilizamos Hyperledger Fabric para desplegar una red de blockchain capaz de almacenar y trackear todos los datos acerca de routers, dispositivos móviles y otros equipamiento dentro de todo un país. Blockchain hizo la plataforma más robusta y eficiente y gracias a ésta, era mucho más sencillo trackear los datos en todo momento, incrementando la visibilidad de los objetos registrados en la red.
En 2021, quería trabajar para un equipo más internacional, por lo que Accenture me dió la oportunidad de trabajar en Hyperledger Bevel ( en ese momento se llamaba blockchain-automation-framework) y ser un contribuidor. Actualmente, estoy trabajando de nuevo en Bevel, ayudando al equipo a cumplir con los objetivos.

Why did you choose to become involved?
I became a contributor of the Hyperledger community back in 2021 by working on Hyperledger Bevel. Right before Bevel, I was working on a blockchain project that was entering a maintenance stage, and I wanted to be part of an international team as all my experience was working within a team from my country. Luckily, I got the chance to be interviewed by Sownak Roy and Suvajit Sarkar, leading peers on the project, and started working as a new member of the team, which was formed by people from a lot of different countries. I didn’t know how useful, productive and enriching it is for a software engineer to be part of an open source project.
¿Por qué decidiste involucrarte?
Empecé a contribuir en la comunidad de Hyperledger en 2021 trabajando en Hyperledger Bevel. Justo antes de trabajar en Bevel, estaba en un proyecto de Blockchain que justamente estaba entrando en una fase de mantenimiento, por lo que a su vez quería como he mencionado anteriormente formar parte de un nuevo equipo más internacional dado que siempre había trabajado en equipos dentro de mi país. Afortunadamente, tuve la oportunidad de ser entrevistado por Sownak Roy y Suvajit Sarkar, líderes del proyecto, y empezar a trabajar como nuevo miembro del equipo, el cuál estaba formado por gente de diferentes nacionalidades.
Desconocía hasta entonces lo productivo y enriquecedor que era para un ingeniero de software formar parte de un proyecto open source.

Tell us about your experience contributing to the Hyperledger community.
In my opinion, it is a great way to get involved with a technology that you are interested in. Furthermore, it gives you the chance to build new relationships that might help you in the future in your professional career. It is a great opportunity to learn from others as well.

En mi opinión, creo que es una gran manera de involucrarse en una tecnología en la que estás interesado, como es Blockchain.
Aparte de esto, te otorga la oportunidad de establecer nuevas conexiones y conocer a diferentes personas que son referencia en la tecnología y que pueden ser de ayuda en el futuro en tu carrera profesional.

What do you think is most important for Hyperledger Foundation to focus on in the next year?
I think Hyperledger Cacti might be a great project to focus on in the next coming years. I remember in 2021, when I was first working on Bevel, it quickly caught my attention when I heard of it from Peter Somogyvari and the team. Cacti connects different DLTs, which gives you a lot of scope and opportunities to work with other companies and interconnect businesses.
¿Qué crees que es lo más importante en lo que se debería enfocar la Hyperledger Foundation en el próximo año?
Pienso que Hyperledger Cacti puede ser un gran proyecto en el que Hyperledger debería trabajar en los próximos años. Recuerdo en 2021, durante mi primera etapa en Bevel, realmente me llamó la atención cuando Peter Somogyvari y el equipo presentaron el proyecto. Cacti tiene la capacidad de conectar diferentes DLTs, dando la oportunidad de trabajar con diferentes compañías e interconectar negocios.

As Hyperledger projects continue to mature, what do you see as the most interesting technologies, apps, or use cases coming out as a result?
Almost all of my experience resides on supply chains. However, I think that Digital Identity is a really interesting use case that can be handled by Hyperledger Indy. Putting permissions to data and documents in the hands of the owner of that information is something that could really help people keep their personal information secure and private. As an example, a person who is willing to work for a company might give only permissions to their CV, Academic Documents or other personal data to some specific participants since it is sensitive information.
¿Dado que los proyectos de Hyperledger continúan madurando, ¿cuáles ves cómo las tecnologías más interesantes, aplicaciones o casos de uso como resultado?
Casi toda mi experiencia reside en aplicaciones de supply chains. Sin embargo, creo que la identidad digital es un caso de uso realmente interesante que puede ser implementado con Hyperledger Indy. Dar permiso de acceso a datos y documentos por parte de los propietarios a ciertas entidades es algo que puede realmente ayudar a las personas a mantener su información personal segura y privada. Como ejemplo, una persona que quiere trabajar para una compañía, quizá solo quiera darle permisos para visualizar su CV, documentos académicos u otra información personal a ciertas personas, dado que es información sensible.

Where do you hope to see Hyperledger technologies and/or blockchain in five years?
I'm going to focus this question on my country. I would love to see blockchain more present in public sectors, as many technologies and implementations are outdated and, as a consequence, they might be vulnerable. I truly believe they need to be modernized and that blockchain, with the hand of Hyperledger, is a great option to replace these old implementations or even help as a complement in many of the solutions.
¿Dónde esperas ver las tecnologías de Hyperledger y/o blockchain en cinco años?
Voy a dirigir esta pregunta hacia mi país. Me encantaría ver blockchain más presente en el sector público, dado que mucha tecnología e implementaciones que están presentes actualmente están desactualizadas y seguramente vulnerables. Realmente pienso que necesitan modernizarse y que Blockchain, de la mano de Hyperledger, puede sustituir o ayudar como complemento en muchas de las soluciones implementadas.

What’s the one issue or problem you hope blockchain can solve?
I would love to see more transparency in my country about the voting mechanism we have for the presidential elections. And it is not about who voted for whom, but if my vote was really counted or not. Blockchain provides the transparency and awareness needed to be assured that it really happened.
¿Que asunto o problema esperas que Blockchain pueda solucionar?
Me encantaría ver más transparencia en mi país en el mecanismo de voto que tenemos para las elecciones presidenciales. No en cuanto quién ha votado a quién obviamente, pero si en si mi voto ha sido realmente contado y ha sido válido. Blockchain da esa transparencia y conciencia que se necesita para saber si realmente ha sucedido.

What is the best piece of developer advice you’ve ever received?
Always work on your writing! A lot of developers tend not to express themselves correctly when it comes to either creating tasks/tickets or documenting their work. I know that this sometimes might be boring for us, but it definitely helps you and your team to make progress more easily and quickly. I always love to get assigned to a task which is correctly documented! And, of course, to read great documentation!
¿Cuál es el mejor consejo como desarrollador que has recibido?
¡Trabajar la escritura! Muchos desarrolladores tienden a no expresarse correctamente en situaciones como a la hora de escribir documentación o descripciones de tareas. Sé que a veces puede ser un poco aburrido, pero definitivamente te ayuda a ti y a tu equipo a progresar de manera más sencilla y rápida. ¿A quién no le gusta que le asignen una tarea bien documentada? ¡Y por supuesto leer una buena documentación!

What advice would you offer other technologists or developers interested in getting started working on blockchain?
Stay calm and be patient when it comes to getting into the technology. It might be a bit overwhelming if you are starting from scratch due to how complex it might seem, but the hours you dedicate will definitely be worth it. There's a lot to learn from blockchain and what comes around it.
¿Qué consejo le darías a otros técnicos o desarrolladores interesados en introducirse a Blockchain?
Tener paciencia a la hora de empezar. Puede parecer un poco abrumador si empezas de cero dada la complejidad, pero las horas que dediques definitivamente valdrá la pena. Hay mucho que aprender de Blockchain y todo lo que le rodea.

What technology could you not live without?
Docker containers. They just make my life way easier. Oh, can’t forget about Maps. Orienting myself and remembering places is definitely not low-hanging fruit for me.

Docker. Simplemente me hacen la vida mucho más fácil. Ah, y Mapas, soy nefasto para orientarme.
